Fuel leak on top of the gas tank

Hi all,

I just bought my first project, a US spec 83 320i, and noticed a gas smell when I was driving. I then noticed fuel pooling on top of the gas tank but that was from a gas line which I replaced and that stopped the leak. Later I noticed the low pressure fuel pump wasn’t locked into the tank, so I locked that in place and I noticed after driving the gas smell was back, and there was no visual leak but fuel was around the pump creating a smell

Common causes: fuel lines, vent hoses, o-ring on top of the pick up unit
