The almost finished 323 Baur

Post by Bill in MN »

There's some trim left to finish and a bit of interior work to do but it's driveable while the details get taken care of.

This car was still being driven this past October and is the product of a complete bare metal redo over this past winter. All work was done in my garage and without sounding arrogant, it turned out very well.

Done to it is: 2.7 "i" conversion, 5sp, Supersprint exhaust, LSD, Volvo front/e30 rear brakes, Billie shocks/HR springs, front/rear tower braces, big honking swaybars, Z3 shifter (highly recommended)....and a bunch of stuff I know I forgot.

Here's a photo of the finish being soda blasted from the body/chassis, prior to body workImage

She's looking spot on there Bill. I like those wheels too, they set the car off nicely. More pics of the finished article (when she's finished of course!). 8)

The Z3 shifter doesn't look much different, save for the fact that it's about 1 inch or so shorter from the ball to the shift rod. It cost me $35US at a junkyard.

I had a bit of a setback bringing it home from the exhaust shop this morning. It died along side the road and I had to get a ride and haul it back on my trailer. Something's afoul in the electronics again, a big issue with this car. For some reason there have been numerous issues with the Motronic conversion and it's taking a while to get the bugs worked out. It should be simple but you know how that goes!

OOh, ronaldo, getting turned on about the Z3 short shift eh!!

Go Z4 shorter!! 1 inch from neutral to 1st gear e.t.c. how quicker can we get :P

Keep up the good work, like the shot blasting of the paint.. its my next thing to do when paint work is getting sorted... (bare metal re-spray)

A good friend who's is a professional photographer stopped by today and wanted to take some shots of the car. I was somewhat reluctant since the car's not totally done yet so he took a couple for the hell of it. Once done we'll do a complete shoot.Image

I got the Baur back from getting the top installed. The fit is a bit off at the forward corners at the C pillar but it's nothing too bad. It's not a show car by any means and overall I'm pleased. I'll get some better pics once I finally get the rain gutter covers put on.
