My little blue shark

Post by Marneus »

Hi all,

I bought Jim's old car & thought I'd start a build thread so here goes.

This is how the car looked when I bought it

Then this happened on the way home

Image

So I was left with it looking like this

Image

On friday I went over to Jim's workshop & did a bit of grinding/sanding of all the little surface rust spots on the car. It now looks like a bit of a patchwork quilt but will be ok through the winter.

Today I collected a new heart for it which will be in by next weekend.

I also won these on ebay today..... 80's Ford recaroness

Image

And am hoping to collect these next week

16x8.5 & 16x9.5 Corvette turbines..... Just got to figure out what the adapter thickness needs to be.

I'll keep updating as things progress :D

Cheers

Jamie

Did you use the grinder I left you, or just the sander?

Engine looks OK, but what did Mike the mechanic make of it?

I just used the sander Jim, I'll bring some pads over when I pick the car up.
Mike was really busy when I got there, he had a car on the ramp, 3 waiting to be done & Jason turned up just after me wanting his Passat looked at so he didn't really have a chance to check it.

He'll have a look at it & let me know if there's any problem with it.

I thought they were Corvette C4 wheels the moments I saw the pics! Interesting choice. You might want to try the hot rod shops for BMW-Chevy adaptors if you draw a blank with the usual outlets.

I've found a place in the US that makes custom adaptors. The offsets on the wheels are +56mm on the 8.5 & +61mm on the 9.5. I'm thinking of taking then both down to +6mm & rolling the arches a tad, with 215/35/16 0n the front & 215/40/16 on the back..... I think they'll sit just about right

After getting prices around $600 for a set of adapters for the C4 Turbines I decided that they were a no go but as it happens there was a set of my 1st choice of wheels on ebay....... I won them this aft

I just won a set of 4 15x8 25mm offset c/w 195/45/15 rubber at a decent price. Collecting them on Saturday, then will have to sort out spacers.

Thanks for the positive comments!

The spoiler is a Zender item & I can't make my mind up wether it's staying or not.... I've settled on what colour I'm painting it so it depends on how it looks against that.

I have spoken to Mike yet Jim, I'm going to call him tomorrow lunchtime to see how he's getting on. I can't wait to get it moving & have a play
