nice clean car, make sure you sort the rust round the b and c pillars out properly as its a common rot spot for the e21, also its the same with the windscreen corners. that rot on the front inner wing isnt common, you need to check the water drain holes that should be down in that comparment with the heater blower, the drain holes lead through inot the tops of the inner wings then out the other side, make sure this is clear and clean and not rotten.

Update pictures ... removed the engine yesterday .. some things were rather attached to the car and decided not to go without a fight ... but within 3 hours, the engine and subframe were gone. I won't do much work on the engine as it has only done about 93.000 KM so I think it should be ok ...

Image

8.00 am .. the car was brought and work could start ...

Image

Engine still in .... everything is still original!

Image

Ah! Rust found ... and pretty bad too, other side is perfect though . Drains look fine so we will just repair this piece ...

Image

New sills look nice, the car can be raised again

Image

Side pic ... 8)

Image

Were to start ...? Girlfriend and collegue (spelled right?) have a look underneath ...

Image

No rot found behind front wings, proberly due to anti rust treatment made by the first owner!

Image

My gilfriend working on the engine ...

Image

.. removing stuff ...

Image

Engine is out ... we decided to remove it complete with subframe.

Image

Car without engine and subframe ...

Image

Subframe back in car, engine removed from subframe. Now removing brake lines to remove the brake booster.

Image

After 6 hours of hard work, the car can be picked up again to be prepped for painting ...

Image

This looked like a small spot of rust (behind the rear seat, wheel arch) but it will be taken care off.

pic of dashboard ...

At last .. most of the nasty rust is gone, only the engine room and the petrol flap / room needs work. But they are working on that right now ...

So now (almost) all bodywork is done, they started with prep. for painting! There will be very little filler used to keep the car as original as possible ... that is also why I recently bought new wings and there will some more new parts ...

I don't think the car will be ready soon but at least it's been done properly ...

Looking damned good Tjaard!! :D

It's great to see someone actually taking the time (and money) to do it properly. So often people will cut corners, which is just such a shame when you have the car disassembled anyway. Can't wait to see it finished - I'm sure it'll be nothing short of stunning!!

Keep posting more pics...

I hope the car is painted somewhere around July, so it should be on the road around September ... hopefully ...
