lowering e21 320i '79
I'm keen to lower my e21 at both the rear and front. I have standard 13' bmw wheels (the ones that look like little alpinas). It has standard springs in it which i am planning to cut with a spring compressor. I am wondering will i need to replace the shocks with anything different? Also how much would i have to cut to drop it about two inches? Or is 2 inches to far? Cheers all look forward to your replies, hanse21.

So long as you don't go too low your old shocks should be OK. It depends on their condition though too. If I were you I would start with a single coil as it's far easier to take more off than put back on again.

i'm looking at doing the same eventually, i did a bit of research and everyone basically said exactly what mark just told you, a coil at a time.

just cut 2 coils off all round, usually does the job. dont expext it to pass an MOT though as your rear springs will prob dislocate on full extension and MOT men dont like cable tie spring holders
