Hello!
Do I need some other parts beside the hall sensor and the speedo from e30 to make the e30 gearbox work?
Is there some other electric parts?
I got 5sp gearbox from e30, and considering to do the swap...
I need to know is it possible to do, before I buy the speedo, drive shaft and the hall sensor....
Thanks to your answers in advance!!!

you dont have to use the hall sender and pickup from an e30 diff as long as you buy an aftermarket thing. you can just extend your curent prop, i think the flange on the rear of the e30 which goes on the diff is different to the e21 diff? im not sure though.

If you have a satellite navigation you could use that to tell you the speed your going!

I have an app on my phone that does this and i can even flip the screen to reverse numbers so that it displays the speed in the windscreen like aeroplate fighter heads up display lol.. (its not an iPhone - its windows but im sure there will be an app for that in the app store)

I know that I can measure the speed by navigation or some other way, but I want to keep my car in original state..:-)

good topic here guys ...... i have the same question as well after reviewing these pictures...

I wana swap 318 IS, which comes with the original E-36 gearbox ... its not a cable one of course like the original E-21 ....

And surely i will not change the dashboard with the E-30 one because i consider this as a mess to my E-21.

i saw the pictures of getting the Speedo meter of the E-30 into the dash guages of the E-21 .... the question is ... whats next.... were are the remaining of photos ???

Please help !!
Its not how fast you drive .... its how you drive fast ... !!!

I disassembled the instrument cluster this weekend, and it seems that it is possible to put in the speedo from the e30 and probaly from e36 too..The speedo has 4 pins, 2 for Hall sensor and probably the other 2 are for voltage input...
The e30 speedo (probably the e36 too) has smaller diameter, so I will put some kind of ring around it to fill the gap, or I will
replace the plate with numbers from e21 speedo...
So for that kind of swap you will need :
-gearbox
-driveshaft
-if you prefer to keep the e21 diff you have to put somewhere the Hall sensor with the plate (in the diff, or attach to the ouput shaft)
- speedo and some wires...:-)
I will put some pictures next week, and more pictures as I progress...
