valve stem seals
How big/easy a job is it to cure the problem of, or replace valve stem seals that leak slightly that cause a bit of a smokey start?

Head off. Plus a bit of fiddling with a valve spring compressor. Its not too difficult if your comfortable with taking the head off. plus, its an ideal oppurtunity to lap your valves in and have a general clean up of the valves and combustion chambers.
