Headlights

Post by e21-Mark »

I am trying to replace the headlights on my TWR as the originals are lost/damaged. They were wired so that all 4 lamps worked as both dip & main but I'm unsure how? Does anyone else have any idea? Are there bulbs with dual filaments that would fit the BMW lights? Has anyone else got their headlights connected in this way?

I guess they just used h4 lamps in stock head lights and looped the wiring into both lamps

So it doesn't have high beams? i thought that was an MOT fail, or is that only if they're not working when fitted?

Yes, it has main beams, but from what I can find out it has the bulbs that contain twin filaments. One for dip and two for main beam.

Along these lines.

As far as i know the 323iS was the only car that had this set up so if you want it done "properly" then prob best try and find someone who has one. However, as i say, i thought it was the 323iS that had this set up so my guess is that it was not on your car as standard. Another thing to perhaps note is that one of my M535i has this set up and i constantly have drivers from the opposite side flashing their beams at me as they think i have my main beam on. Annoying for me and them tbh.

The second owner told me that this is how the car came from TWR.

......also, i am 99% certain that the cars that came with this as standard, the headlight lens (glass) is slightly different, i have seen it and it is very difficult to describe, but it has a lip all the way round the diameter of of the lens. From memory, it is only the outer lens that has this lip.
