well ...you say that...but ...years ago, I had a contract with a saab dealer. They sent some of the lot cars to me for detailing including a brand new 900s turbo.
The engine was dusty from a test drive earlier in the week so I washed it. Thing is the distributer on those was at the back of the engine and it stuck out sideways. Seems I got water in the cap and welll....when we started it to pull it out the garage...it set fire to the wiring harness. very exspensive lesson.

OMG, I opened the dizzy cap and sprayed WD-40, will it catch fire for me now??????? I am in Europe btw so I doubt any one can come to the rescue. A chap came by the other day who is an enthusiast who told me to change the petrol sender which is located under the seat, so I bought that, and hopefully the car will work, do you think that's the problem?

I hope nothing catches fire, thats all I need now!!! If that happens then my reaction will be this:

WD40 is OK but just wipe it dry after with some paper towel or tissue.

The sender unit under the back seat is for the fuel gauge. It's nothing to do with the pre-ignition you've got. It's either that dodgy Solex (most likely tbh) or your timing is a tiny bit too far advanced.

ah dang! That's 60 Euros down the drain then. What am I meant to do? who do I call. The BMW agent will not touch my car for sure, as their mechanics suck + they do things by trial and error thus presenting you with a bill for parts sky high. Can you tell me what I should do then to fix the solex? If this helps....last time I decided to spray carburetor cleaner and when I did the car Miraculously started!!!, and I could feel it about to trun off so I sprayed more and the car remained running, and every time I spray into the carb it runs!!! So is there a petrol intake problem then?

lol...it does sound like a fuel problem.Unfortunately there are many things that can be at fault. I think you need to decide how much you want to spend on it. £300 or so and get the webber...if its too much then start thinking about rebuilding the carb. If you want to rebuild the carb I will be happy to talk you through it if you want. :)

I have no opposition to buy the Weber Carb, however I like to keep the car as original as possible that if it came out of the factory with a part I like to keep it. Does the Weber Carb fit perfectly and exactly like the solex? Or will some pipes be left out etc....? If it's exactly the same but just a different make I wouldn't mind changing it then especially if you are saying it's much better.

Once the air cleaner is back on you won't see any difference. It'll feel different though as it'll run better, produce more power and give better mpg.

buy and fit the weber..... rebuild the solex and keep it safe.... should you sell the car..... or want to refit it, cus you cant sleep at night with the thought of your car being "modified" etc, then you can! then resell the weber kit for £200....
