my 78 320i, any advice?

Post by redagain »

I purchased a low mileage 78 E21 that was in good running order when stored 8 years ago. So far I have drained tank, new gas , new plugs, new wires, new rotor, new distributor cap ,new condensor, new points, new fuel filter, checked for vacuum leaks and replaced some lines. When I fire it up it idles like a dream but wants to die when you give it gas. It wont take any throttle input. occasionally I can get it to rev up a bit. This is my first E21, any advice on what to try next? Thanks

idling well but dying when throttled usually points to an air leak. You've maybe missed one?

Well , I really went over it, no vacuum leaks that I can find. A few lines in question replaced. Still dies when you give it gas. Fuel pump. Im ready for the $250 bite if need be. Thanks

Considering that price, it might be good to do a check on pressure and production first, even though I do not have any reference, anyone?

Well, I put in a new fuel pump and that wasnt the problem. Pulled the injectors and cleaned them. Put them back with new seals. Runs the best it has since I bought it. Actually drove it around the block. At about 2500 rpm's it flattens out and the car starts to shake and shutter no matter what gear your in. So it idles great, drives, but at 2500 rpms it hits a wall so to speak. Ive done everything and replaced everything I can think of. Stumped..
