Calipers Q's - differences + rebuild

Post by Irish_chris »

I have 2 front calipers off a '83 316t I want to put onto my '78 318

Firstly are they the same?

Secondly is there any off the shelf rebuild kits I can get? Seals/bolts/pins etc

Thanks,

Chris

I believe there are calipers built by Até and by Girling. You can exchange them as a whole but for a rebuild, you need a dedicated kit. But a rebuild is defo worth while!

Here's some pictures of the callers I have in question for the rebuild. They have 2 pistons.

Just checked ETK but ETK speaks of Até and LuKas calipers. Até have the pins holding the pads go in from the inside, Lukas from the outside. The lukas examples also have little clips holding these pins in place. They are at the end of the pins so on the inside. Pics are not detailed enough to tell but since they're not rusted too badly you should be able to see a brand name on them.
