Re: m50 engine swap
what about power steering?
with the heavier engine am i thinking its gonna be an issue not having it?
how easy is it to steer when going sideways?

Re: m50 engine swap
it is very easy to steer when going sideways...
wheel is turning all by itself. I didn't have any problems with it on drift day.
initial steer is normal and when tail starts to slide, you just let go steering wheel (little by little) and then grab the wheel when the car is reached angle you like or need....
it is messy to explain but it is very simple as is.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car. Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how far you take the wall with you.

Re: m50 engine swap
These are early (top) and later (bottom) style 6 cyl crossmembers

And the lower one in this pic is a 4 cyl version (the upper is E36)

Re: m50 engine swap
ah i see so they are same shape (later ones) just the mounts that can be cut off and new ones welded in anyway .
so no need to find a 6 cylinder - just weld up the 4 i already have

Re: m50 engine swap
is there a way of converting from rear drums to discs?
apart from sourcing 323 arms , how do the calipers mount?
cant seem to find a close up picture.

Re: m50 engine swap
what about a fuel filter?
do you just rely on the filter in with fuel pump or just an inline filter in engine bay?
i see original 323 had a big metal cylindrical filter .
i assume it had to be metal due to pressure?

Re: m50 engine swap
Ah glad your thinking of details
3 bar pressure and I use an inline filter.
