Unleaded?
Re: Unleaded?
it'll be fine, bmw's already had harded valve seats along time before other manufacterers......... if you had a 1980 mg metro it'd be a different story.

Re: Unleaded?
Wait a minute - does that mean I can run my 323i on bog standard unleaded without the Castrol valvemaster additive I keep buying at £15.00 per bottle??

Re: Unleaded?
Yeah, any alloy head car already has hardened steel valve seats. May just need to swing the dizzy a bit to alter the timming (minimal)

Re: Unleaded?
Yes, but use superunleaded. 2002's don't need additive either. They've run unleaded in Germany for donkeys years.pjksutherland wrote:Wait a minute - does that mean I can run my 323i on bog standard unleaded without the Castrol valvemaster additive I keep buying at £15.00 per bottle??

Re: Unleaded?
Good point. Prob better to run super anyway just never really thought of it.
Re: Unleaded?
I always run on premium fuel as I find it prevents the knocking. Shell V Power is wondeful stuff.

Re: Unleaded?
It's more likely the car was running lean and/or the ignition was too advanced, it's not like a 320 or 323 is a highly strung powerhouse.

Re: Unleaded?
That would be my guess as well. After running several K kms on leaded in the 1980's even the older engines have no issues running on unleaded.
