Post by problemchild75 »

Like an idiot I have just locked my e21 keys in the boot. Any one got any idea how to get them out?

Damn, wish I could help. Short of either picking or screwdrivering the boot lock I don't know what to suggest.

Is the rest of the car unlocked because if so there's a slim chance if the seat back was removed that you could get a long pokey thing past the seat belt reel and snag them that way?

if the car is unlocked, then you can whip off the door lock and take the key to a locksmith. They can cut a key from the barrel.

I have been told, that you need to give them the ign barrel however, if you want a key that will do the ignition as well but if you just want a spare key that will open the boot, the door lock will be sufficient.

if you get stuck for a locksmith that will do it, there is one in withington village who are spot on

:? if there are no spare keys around (there's a lesson) I'd consider sacrificing a tail light indeed.

You could check with BMW though. If it is likely the original locks are still in there you can try to order a key on vehicle VIN, but BMW can only do that for cars produced from abt mid 1981 afaik.

1. With your vin number, you can get an extra key at the dealer.
2. wreck a taillight and reach in?
I took the corner at high speed, came in the ditch, drove straight through a garden, flipped over 4 times and then I lost control of my steering-wheel!

for anyone else who locks keys in boot, drill a hole, approx 6mm, in this exact location, then a with a small screwdriver you can manually press the latch forward which will open the boot
