suspension advice

Post by Moutinho »

Hi guys, i own a 1979 320\6 and i want to put some bilsteins on it! my question is, what´s the difference between b6 sport and the b8 sprint?
What are the best front and rear strut shock mounts and where can i find those?
What are the best springs? H&R or Eibach?
I also have poly bushes all around,so what´s the best set of bilsteins and springs?

sorry for may english!!! :driving :logospin

As far as my E36 was concerned, the B8's were the same as the B6 but set up for lower springs. That is you could use the B6's with standard springs or slightly lowered. For a bigger drop you needed the B8's.

I have fitted a set of Spax springs & adjustable gas shocks (40mm drop). Seems to work well. I still have the old H & R springs I took off.

Since the E21 has MacPherson struts all round it technically already has coilovers. What you're paying extra for is the ability to adjust damper settings & (depending on make/model) ride height. Do you need this functionality? It's of limited value for road use - most people tighten it down till the car rides like a skateboard & is a pain to live with.

The Spax kit seems decent quality, didn't cost a fortune & rides/handles well on middle settings. Don't over think the issue - it's not an E92 M3.

Hi all,

I'm looking for the low-down on standard (non-sport) vs spring drop ie 40mm / 60mm. I naïvely purchased springs as 40mm drop without challenging the vendor firmly enough and appear to have a 60/40 drop front to rear :wtf . It isn't either a good ride or a good look - to counter this I am looking to change only the front springs and get the front end up a bit - to be accurate by 30mm! So do the Eibach and H&R lower by 30mm or is it more? A definitive chart recording manufacturer / drop (mm) would no doubt be helpful to all, which I am prepared to post.

Any information would be gratefully received.

My h&r set specify a 35mm drop, and to me it looks pretty accurate.

I'm sure I found mine were -40mm when I Googled the numbers on the springs.
