The guys at Janspeed were really helpful and am looking forward to going back to have the new system built and fitted.

I was able to take a look around while they got some measurments from my car.

They love their Jap motors.

Image

Bought myself some German spec number plates which I plan to fit once the number transfer goes thru.
Getting the Sytner dealer sticker was hard work but managed to get the receptionist to post me one in the end.

Image

Pity about the weather but it was good to rack up some miles now that everything is running as it should be.

mark all looks nice, just a quick one, you will get stopped more on those plates then the silver and black cos the german style plates has the "D" with english reg and german style lettering. the black and silver you can almost get away cos the car being old can almost suit its era.. my nephew got caught 2 weeks ago and payed a fine points on his licence.. wasnt worth it he said.... id think about that .. the B/S your better of with them...

Alot e30 guys use them when they go to shows, but take them off on their way back home.. if you go on the E30 zone site you put a post and they will neg feed on it... i wouldnt risk that....

Mine's just passed it's MOT (after a new exhaust and rear anti-roll bar bushes) with pressed plates. They're pressed but English font so no worries!

£30 a pair for fully legal plates with the manufacturer data.

BUT as that rule only applies to post 2001 (ish) cars, I followed the link to platemyride, and got some without the manufacturer data.

Thanks for that - platemyride sorted it.

Well, apart from the torrential rain and a leak via the sun roof drains I am also having problems with my clutch.

It's OK most of the time but then I seem to lose some of the pedal and cannot change gear. Pumping the pedal helps - sometimes - but it just seems to be a bit random. I topped the fluid up and don't seem to be losing any but I can't quite work out what the problem is? It's obviously hydraulic though so I guess the easiest thing is to fit new cylinders.

Unless there's something I'm missing?? Any suggestions please guys?

First have you bled it? and 2nd the slave cylinder has a habit of leaking from the seals on the push rod. doesnt always show because it leaks into the bell housing  pull it out and see if its wet. only two bolts
I just had a look in the walloth & nesch book....they dont show the diagram of the sun roof drain. I think ...well i know... the only way to see if it is still attached at the top is to pull back the head liner.

I'm pretty sure that something was trapped / damaged / disturbed when the speakers were fitted yesterday as its never leaked before. That's why I was hoping to find a diagram to check. Maybe one of our Dutch friends can help?

I managed to find both master and slave cylinders for a bargain 30 quid for the pair so I'm just going to fit them. Hopefully I can be sure it'll be OK again. I have noticed that if I move the clutch pedal by hand there seems to be a bit of travel before the piston in the master cylinder actually feels any pressure - maybe 8 or 10mm. I'm thinking that maybe the piston isn't returning as it should?

could still be air. if the seals are bad they could be sucking in some air ...all it would take is a little grit. If the seals are good it is pos that the travel is out of adjustment. I recall a set screw on the master in between the pedal and the piston...or was that on the slave...one or the other.

Well and quick update is in order. My clutch is sorted and better than ever with a really good pedal and absolutely no play in the system.

As it was dry I decided to pop out the speaker and trim on the drivers side and see if I could spot where the leak might be? I even poured a little bit of water down the sunroof drain hole at the front. I couldn't see any obvious leak though, so I simply made sure that everything seemed to be in the right place. I also made sure that the plastic pipe wasn't being trapped by the speaker.

Sorry about the picture quality but the camera on my phone didn't like the glare from the orange paintwork.

Speaker and cover re-fitted

Image

Blaupunkt London which came free with some second-hand speakers. My satnav is getting on a bit which is why it's the size of a 1970's portable tv.

Image

I needed a set of HT leads and I discovered a small motor factors store just down the road who hooked me up with these 8mm silicon jobbies in red. £30 for the complete set which I think is bloody good value.

Image

So, hopefully I can start to enjoy my e21 again although I'm still dreading it raining. Apart from fitting the HT leads the next job on the list is to sort out the scruffy Recaros. I have something on it's way from California that I hope will provide a solution so I'm keeping a look out for the UPS man.
