My little blue shark
No sign of progress on the car, looks like someone has borrowed my gantry/hoist and it's holding up the engine of a vauxhall while it has new mounts done, so Mike couldn't have used it to get the new M10 in. Kind of stopped me taking the engine out of the baur as well.
The temporary rust repair looks pretty good. I think I may have a rattle can of saphirblau paint on one of my shelves - if you can find it you are welcome to blast some over the primer. Looks like the rust wasn't terribly deep at all so far. Just the windscreen to investigate now.

Jim, I spoke to Mike yesterday afternoon & he said due to one of the other lads deciding to change the steering rack on his Vectra he hadn't been able to start on mine.
The lad's coming to finish his Vectra today & Mike going to get started on mine frist thing Friday morning, I should be able to collect it on Sunday sometime.
I'll have a look for the paint when I collect my car, then give it a blast over to see how it looks.
Cheers

The new engine is sweet as a nut (Apart from the oil temp/pressure sender working loose just after leaving the workshop & dumping the oil filter & oil all over the road
)
The engine is really quiet, revs freely with no rattles or owt. Charged me £120 for fitting, new gaskets & oil. Not bad really.
Gonna give it a really good looking over this weekend if I get chance.

Do you mean the sandwich plate with the gauge senders on? Was a barsteward to get on properly first time I did it, thread on the nut thing a bit tricky. You need to give it a thorough tightening with a socket then put the filter on.
£120 notes is fair, I still haven't paid him for the work on the dead engine(s) so will sort that tomorrow. Hopefully we are straight now, but I may have a spare hazard switch if you still feel I owe you!

We're all square mate but if you have a spare swith then I'll buy it off you.
How do I remove the sender? It's now tie wrapped to the strut brace, I'm thinking of removing it & the dials as mine will never see track action again.... Do you want them?

The sandwich plate fits on to the oil filter mounting with a big nut thing that the oil filter then screws on to. If it's off you may no longer own the nut which is presumably on the road somewhere. If you don't want the gauges etc, just snip the wires off either end - pull them out through the grommet in the bulkhead. The bit of mdf holding the gauges in is held in place with a couple of screws, easy to disconnect the 12v line behind there.
If you don't want them any more I'll find a use for them. Nice to know oil pressure is OK, so not just for track use, but given that the oil pressure held up right until the old engine died I suppose they aren't that important!
I'll look for the spare haz switch tomorrow- definitely have a bit of time in the afternoon to do Baur dismantlage/fettling. Will be strange not to see the 316 there - it's finally gone
Hope you enjoy owning it!

Well.... Today I decided to fit the recaro seats that I got & after 3 hours of messing around, making adapter plates & generally getting annoyed I got the drivers seat in.
Unfortunately it sits about 3" higher that the seats I took out so I can't drive it without wedging my head against the roof
I'll have to get another plate made on Monday & try lower the seat by mounting directly to the seat rails insead of the E21 Adapters, here are some pics on todays labours.
Before

New seat in

Here you can see how much higher the seat from the RS Turbo sits, hoping to drop it an inch or 2 when I re-fit it next week.

The boots on these little cars are quite spacios aren't they

It's too bloody cold to do owt else so I'll leave it till next weekend. I've ordered the spacers so hopefully I'll be able to test fit the Schmidts then get some new tyres on them.
Cheers

My spacers arrived so I thought I'd test fit the wheels.... Could only try the rears as I'm still waiting for the longer bolts for the fronts.
It needs lowering a lot more to make it right but I think the wheels suit the car. What does everyone think??

I'll take some better photo's once I get all the wheels on & get it out of the garden.
Cheers

Cheers guys!RetroBeemer wrote:You need to go way low or get a bit more profile on the tyres if you still want to get over speed humps! Look good though.
I'm gonna go way low & scrape my way over the humps.... Sump guard is a must
Just got 3 195/45/15 Falken ZE912's fitted for £130, not a bad deal & the longer wheel bolts have just arrived so hopefully tomorrow I'll get them all on & take it for a spin.
