Jacking

Post by cdavie2002 »

I think this has happened to all our cars at some point in their lives. Car goes to garage, they use a flat plate on jack to lift the car up. The weight of the car then crumples the bottom of the sill.

How can we avoid this?

Take a large piece of timber with you. You can either use it to spread the load or to beat the mechanic. Your choice :hammer

Ha ha great advice, kind of a dual function thing. A proper hydraulic ramp is also safe I reckon.

All valid points guys, cheers. I especially like this idea :hammer

I hust wondered if there was a rubber pad that could be used to protect the sills.

You can also get a selection of rubber pads with cutouts to sit around the sills that fit the jack pads, I am actualy suprised more garages do not use them.

Or go extreme like and stick a cage in with steel plates welded under the cage mounts to act as jacking points
