Just wondered what (if any) ICE people are running in their cars?

In MIB I just ran JBL 6x4's in the 4 factory locations with a small boot mounted sub to give a bit more depth of sound. It always sounded fine for my needs anyway. I wanted to run something a little better this time but strictly on a budget.

I will have a Nakamichi CD45Z head unit and JBL 6x4's in the front footwell. I have a pair of Pioneer TS 6x9's for the rear parcel shelf but I'm unsure if they will fit without cutting the parcel shelf? I really don't want to do that but if I use spacers I'm not sure that they won't hit the rear screen?! (unfortunately I don't have an e21 here that I can test fit them in) Does anyone else run 6x9 rears?

So far, the whole system was less than £150 so I'm also thinking of using a slimline sub? I figured I could put one under the passenger seat. I really don't want a bloody great boot mounted thing anyway. Has anyone else used a slimline sub and are they any good?

I am yet to get myself an amp and am unsure what to go with? I'm after quality rather than quantity but don't want to spend loads. In fact, I'm quite happy to go with used so long as it still works. So any suggestions?

Mark, many years ago i done similar to u. if i remember rightly the back shelf would need to be cut out to fit the 6x9. i also had a 3 way amp, tweeters on the door mirror covers, mids and bass on a board with the amps in the boot, replaced the kick speakers, and the sound was quality with a thumping bass.

check out my pictures mark i made a parcel shelf for my 6x9s and they dont hit the window nor did i have to do any cutting





you need spacer rings 12mm mdf some bodyfiller spray glue acoustic carpet. in my car ive jl 6x4 in the kickwells jl twetters on the doors jl 6x9 rear shelf and a 10"vibe sub and its sounds awsome its not about what you got but how its all set up

Nakamichi cd400, 50p shaped sony sub in the boot, 5 channel amp and two jbl 2 ways in the original locations. it only likes to plays drum n bass.

planning on doing a better effort but way way way way down the priority list.

What sort of amp do I want to drive 2 6x9's, 2x6x4's and say an 8'' sub?

They're 160w. I'm not looking to enter any sound-offs with the Staines Massive so don't need mega bass innit.

A 4x50 powering the 6x4 & 6x9 and id have a 10" sub in the boot powered by a 250watt amp

I used a slimline sub with onboard amp in my last 316. It was one of the smallest I could find and it was still a very tight fit under the passenger seat (from memory I think it was 'monster' brand). Sounded great, but I had to mount it so the phono/power cables came out of the front of the seat (space constraints) - this meant passengers were kicking the jacks. It only last a couple of months before the jack sockets broke away from the circuit and the amp was dead. If I did it again I'd probably just go for something in the boot, wasn't worth the hassle.

I don't do passengers and I'm deleting the back seat.

I guess I could fabricate some sort of shield though, just in case.

Hah, I wish I didn't do passengers. If you're deleting the back seat you've got loads of room to mount it out of the way of destructive feet!
