Engine Bay Sound Deadening
Right, I need a replacement sound deadening.
I've just rang BMW Wilmslow and they're saying it's NLA and none of the dealers in the UK are holding any stock (which is no suprise)
Does anyone know of anyone doing an aftermarket one, or does anyone have one in good condition.
Part number is 51481852348.
Cheers.

I don't think so no, but maybe I could modify one?

Re: Engine Bay Sound Deadening
This is a common problem because indeed BMW does not have it anymore. (even in Germany).

Early to late if different It might only be the cut outs for the brackets that the brake servos bolt to on the bulkhead that are different ...

Re: Engine Bay Sound Deadening
Late one won't fit early models. That "radius" in picture is different. Body after 8/77 have more space for m20 and longer "radius".

I'm making the assumption that I'll not run into trouble with the engine swap with regards to that radius?

Re: Engine Bay Sound Deadening
No, it'll be fine. You can always cut the rubber deadening pad too. (or ditch it all together?)
Re: Engine Bay Sound Deadening
I ended up sacking the sound deadening off altogether. It does actually do its job pretty well. my car is a bit more noisy now, so I was going to take all the carpets out and then line the bulkhead from inside the car with some of that fancy dynamat stuff.

Yeah, I want the car to be quiet in all honesty, not too fussed about finished weight or anything.
Good news on the body taking the engine and box as well, had me worried for a bit!
