rolfi's "I've bought another car" -thread.

Post by rolfi »

EDIT: Well.. I'm just posting pics here. Feel free to comment :) I have no expensive cars, so this thread is not for bragging.. Just to show you what other cars I like (or don't) and drive :) Every car is sold before a new one arrives. Sold the Benz and bought the *shiver* Opel, scrapped the Opel and bought the MKI Ford Granada, sold the Granada and bought the 750i.

-----------------------

I had to get a daily driver when restoring the E28 and E21.
I originally looked for a Chevrolet Caprice Classic, but the one I wanted was (un)fortunately(?) sold. I started looking for other reasonably priced cars and found a 1986 Mercedes-Benz 300SE about 20 minutes from where I live. I called the owner and went to look at it 15 minutes later.
It looked quite ok. The seller told me everything he knew that was wrong with the car. Some rust, but none in dangerous places. The idle that was quite high sometimes, broken sunroof (but stays closed) and a struggling
I called him the next day and said it was mine.

I got 8 extra wheels, 2 boxes with parts (relays, ECU, AFM etc.) and a lot of documents on how to fix vacuum leaks on the central locking system, idling adjustments etc. I haven't looked through everything yet

I'm really pleased with the car, even though it died when putting it in D at a traffic light. I got the passengers to push my car to the nearest parking lot... And then they went to a restaurant to buy food , so I stood there alone with the bonnet open and not knowing what to do.. Do I have to say that I felt like a non-knowing blonde virgin, alone with a open bonnet and non-running car?

Someone mentioned the fuel-pump relay, so I changed it (was in the box with the ECU and other relays). And it worked :D After that the car has been as good as it could be.

When I got it it looked like this:

And now it looks like this:

Haven't tried tinting the rear windshield yet, but I have to do it soon.
I'm also looking for 16" Mercedes/AMG Penta wheels. Just to keep it right for it's time. I've also considered 17" old monoblock wheels, but I like the pentas better.

And white blinkers is coming soon :)

I had to get myself a daily driver, as the E28 doesn't have brake pipes left and the E21 isn't registered.

I found a car on the internet, not far away from here.
It was owned by an old man who died almost 2 months ago, he bought it in 2000, and has driven it 5000km since then. I've driven it 4000km, and the mileage is now 140 000km :p

And it's a..............

1987 Opel Senator ;)
2.5i and with an automatic, so it's slow and thirsty :p

But I'm VERY pleased with it... Now I want lowering springs, and LSD and BMW CSL wheels :p

Like this photoshopped pic of mine

Then the 1975 Ford Granada 2.3 came.

Not much rust, good engine, good interior, bad paint. I didn't like the way it drove. Had to turn the steering wheel like 2 complete rounds to get around a roundabout. Sold it around 3-4 months after I bought it. It was alot of fun.

Here as a snow plow. (chains on rear wheels, and full throttle)

Them cossies aren't as reliable as Granny

THEN came the mighy twelve.

and typical M70, it doesn't run on more than 6 cylinders... One cylinder bank has a problem. The only thing I haven't checked is fuel pressure, so I'm hoping that it's just a faulty pump or clogged filter :)

And those wheels... Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn FAP

OK I did expect more cars haha but you keep the collection moving about. Did you scrap the Opel personally, as in crash?

It actually managed to scrap itself. The front of the car rusted off by the firewall, so when the car was lifted the front sagged quite a lot. One of the strut towers also cracked. It was pretty fancy to see the changes of the right front wheel camber each day.

Called a local scrapyard, then they came and picked it up.

So I didn't crash, no. If I had crashed with that heap of junk, I seriously wouldn't be alive
